We’ll work on a series of exercises\, experiences\, and spontaneous compositions. Visiting from Portugal\, Catarina dos Santos is a singer\, songwriter\, and sound artist. Her cultural roots combine Africa\, Portugal and Brazil\, and her life in New York. Her passion for jazz took her to New York to study Jazz Performance at The City College of New York\, and Orchestration at The Julliard School. She also is part of the Julliard School Choral Union. In 2005\, Catarina became the lead singer and songwriter for the band Nation Beat. $20.

Panelists include internationally acclaimed Parandero and Garifuna Artist Aurelio Martinez\, Luz Soliz\, author\, educator and choreographer\, Lucy Blanco\, lead singer for the Garifuna Jazz Ensemble\, and Andy Ordonez\, Garifuna Drummer and Artist with the Garifuna Jazz Ensemble. The Residency by Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation\, organized in partnership with The Afri-Garifuna Jazz Ensemble and Bronx Music Heritage Center\, has been made possible with support from Chamber Music America through its Residency Endowment Fund. Bobby Sanabria & Project X will provide a live Latin Jazz soundtrack for the classic silent film\, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. Make sure to wear your costume! Free and open to the public. *The BMHC will be collecting donations for Puerto Rico relief for the Jazz Foundation of America (JFA). JFA helps professional\, career musicians\, who rely on music to pay their bills. JFA relief will help the many jazz\, R&B\, and roots musicians on the island who have lost their homes\, instruments\, livelihoods\, etc to Hurricane Maria.*
