Amir Alan Vahab

Amir Alan Vahab is honored as a peacemaker and virtuoso and one of New York’s most celebrated and distinguished composer/vocalists of Sufi and folk music. He sings in various languages and performs songs from Persian, Turkish and Azeri repertoires. He plays and teaches the instruments of tar, setar, tambour, saz, oud, ney, daf and zarb. Amir studied in London and at the University of Paris before moving to New York City in 1981. In his work, Amir first illustrates the beauty of Iranian traditional music, which he believes is part of our global heritage. He also takes new approaches to traditional works in order to attract a young generation of music enthusiasts. Aside from his many performances, Amir has composed eclectic music for theater and film.
Amir will be accompanied by musicians Yvette Ghoughassian and Gail Niziak.
