Cynthia Renta

Cynthia Renta is a multi-disciplinary Afro-Caribbean folk artist, community or- ganizer and educator. She performs with the Ase Dance Theater Collective, Plena Sin Fronteras and Global Rhythms Ashe. She specializes in bomba from Puerto Rico and was the founding co-Director of Bomberas de la Bahia- California’s first bomba women’s drum ensemble, and creator of Project Ci- marrona–the first transnational bomba women’s project uniting California, Puerto Rico, NY, NJ and Chicago. She is the recipient of Paso Negro’s Inc. and the Institute of Puerto Rican Art and Culture award. She has taught children and adults at various venues and currently runs a children’s bomba dance class for the Elizabeth Society of New Jersey and directs the Bembe Collective– an Afro-Caribbean theatre dance project.
