Palabras/Words: Women Who Run With the Wolves hosted by La Bruja, Lisa Carrasquillo, Michelle Madera, and Deborah Ramos.

“Inside of every one of us is a wild one who has been tamed and if given just enough air to breathe and space to run. . . Allow yourself to imagine. . .Honor life as wild women, empowered with our voices once again.”

This all-women line-up of poetry, comedy, and spiritual empowerment hosted by La Bruja evokes the spiritual liberation of women as expressed in Clarissa Pinkola Estés book, Women Who Run With the Wolves. The program is in tandem with Latinas 4 Life, the movement began by La Bruja to empower young women.
Caridad De La Luz “La Bruja” has been performing poetry since her debut at the Nuyorican Poets Cafe in 1996 and has gone on to act in films such as Down to the Bone with Vera Farmiga and Spike Lee’s Bamboozled. She has recorded four original albums and has worked and recorded with the likes of Fat Joe, Tony Touch, Vivian Green, Cypress Hill, Afrika Bambaataa, and Bobby Sanabria. She appears on Prince Royce’s new album PHASE II and all her work is available on www.labrujamusic.com
Lisa Carrasquillo is the Supervising Attorney of the Office of Student Suspensions and a former Bronx Prosecutor. Born and raised in the Bronx, this is her second stand-up performance.
Michelle Madera is a High School English teacher for the NYC DOE. She has been teaching for 14 years at the high school from which she graduated. She is also a spiritual advisor and is glad she can give back to her community and be able to deliver the message, “Everyone has a purpose. We have in our possession the necessary tools to fulfill our destiny. We just have to search within to find them.”
Deborah Ramos began writing at an early age and has found solace, comfort and healing in the art of it. She is also the author of An Error Has Occurred: Please Try Again and She Shoots: She Scores and is a musician and singer/songwriter as well. Her goal is to appeal to those who have been through similar struggles as she has in order for their own ca- tharsis to heal them, mind, heart and soul.
